The Chief Executive Officer of Virgin Australia Group Jayne Hrdlicka hinted at the new vacancies in the company for 250 employees. The airline is planning to significantly expand operations across its domestic network by October 2021.

Today May 20, 2021, Hrdlicka announced that the airline plans to expand its team by at least 250 new people over the coming months across its operational and corporate workforce. The Australian air carrier is eager to hire pilots, baggage handlers as well as specialists for IT and technical services positions.

Growing confidence in the community, thanks to the vaccination rollout and domestic borders staying largely open, means the time is right for us to bring back jobs and put more aircraft in the skies. We are so pleased to have turned a corner from the worst of the pandemic and to soon welcome 250 new and highly skilled individuals into the Virgin Australia team,” the CEO was quoted in the airline’s statement.

The news regarding new vacancies comes as an addition to the 370 cabin crew roles announced in April 2020. According to Hrdlicka, Virgin Australia looks for additional staff to support its network expansion plans that include operations to five new domestic destinations, including Sydney-Darwin, Sydney-Townsville, Adelaide-Cairns, Melbourne-Townsville, and Perth-Cairns.

The Australian airline also is focused on adding more than 700 extra weekly operations across its domestic network by October 2021.  On April 15, 2021, Virgin Australia announced that it was set to hire 150 new flight attendants as well as return 220 cabin crew members from its axed long-haul operations in order to support its major domestic expansion plan.

The air carrier confirmed to the local media that it has already agreed with lessors to return 10 leased Boeing 737-800 aircraft, which had been operated by the air carrier pre-pandemic, by autumn 2021.
